“MicroTec Security”, Milton Keynes: fancy-edged

“MicroTec Security” burglar alarm, Milton Keynes • Like yesterday’s pointy-sided MicroTec, this newer box is a rarely-sighted fancy-edged shape – indeed the only example I’ve seen. It’s duller and less recognisable than the older enclosure however, so it’s good to see they’ve kept their striking retrofuturist logo. • Spotted: Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK9, England, 2010 • Politics: In the Conservative constituency of Milton Keynes North

  1. Hey, you mentioned above that the “fancy-edged” box is rarely seen. I was in London last year and I didn’t see a single one. However, I’m from Ireland, and that type of box is the most common box there is in Ireland. You literally cannot walk down a street in Ireland without seeing one of these boxes. They stopped making them recently though, but they are still absolutely everywhere in Ireland!!

    • Hi Evan, thanks for pointing that out. Although I’ve been to Dublin a couple of times, I rather sanely wasn’t looking for burglar alarms, and I’ve never been anywhere else in Ireland at all, so am totally unfamiliar with the sounders there. Hopefully one day I shall revisit the Emerald Isle and get the chance to document a few!
