Romec, Oxford: big R

Romec

“Romec” burglar alarm, Oxford • Romec, like Malgor, sounds like the capital city of a minor Balkan nation. It’s got a nice big R though. (If there were two of them, it would be big Rs…) • Spotted: Cornmarket, Oxford, Oxfordshire, OX1, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Oxford East

  1. Romec is a joint venture between the Royal Mail and Balfour Beatty. They used to be nationalised as part of the RM and do alarms and many other tech things exclusively for the RM, but since 2000 or something have been available for anyone.

  2. Was this attached to a Post/Delivery Office? Romec is Royal Mail’s in-house security/maintenance operation – actually I think it was privatised a few years ago but…

    • I don’t think so. Also, I’ve seen quite a few old Romecs in my time, and I don’t think those were on Royal Mail premises either.
