  1. Home Care were based in Saltford (near Bristol) and this spot, which has to be on the now 23 year derelict King Edwards School, is unusual. Home Care were very hot right from the start on monitored and maintained systems such that when they sold to perhaps Modern or may have been Bath and West (BWS) – in the very early 90s and nearly every single box was changed within months – they just seemed to disappear from the face of the West. You do still see very old metal Home Care boxes around Bath and area although these too are increasingly rare, and must certainly be non functional by now. This is the only plastics Home Care box I’m aware of that survived. The 400 year old KES moved to North Road in September 1990, but I seem to remember it wasn’t alarmed until after the first round of squatting, after which the 1960s toilet block was demolished to discourage such further use, and the alarm installed. I’m guessing that either it was Bells Only or whoever took over Home Care just couldn’t gain access!

    • Glad to see you recognised its location from the close-up, perhaps not surprising if it’s the only one in existence! I was going to mention that it was on KES but didn’t have time to do the research – so thanks for adding all this interesting factual info.
