Unknown, Istanbul: distant

Unknown burglar alarm, Istanbul • Another alarm on a grand place of worship, namely the Yeni Mosque near Istanbul’s Galata bridge. For obvious reasons I couldn’t take a close-up photo, so I’ve no idea what it says. • Spotted: Yeni Cami, Ragip Gumuspala Caddesi, Istanbul, Turkey, 2010

    • Going up and photographing a burglar alarm on a giant mosque just didn’t seem like a very good idea, especially as I didn’t have a headscarf. I’m always wary of photographing burglar alarms abroad anyway, as obviously it could look pretty suspicious and I couldn’t explain myself in a foreign language. Which is why I haven’t got very many shots of them. Venice isn’t so bad because everyone’s a tourist there and everyone takes photos of everything.
