Shorrock, Bristol: mossy

“Shorrock” burglar alarm, Bristol • And here’s the final, rather mossy,  incarnation of the “tupperware” box, as a Shorrock. You still see quite a few of these around, so I’m surprised it’s the first time I’ve published one. I’m not clear how this box type transferred from Securicor to Shorrocks – I’m sure the latter company didn’t buy the former – so perhaps someone can enlighten me. • Spotted: Christmas Street, Bristol, Avon, BS1, England, 2013 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bristol West

  1. I sort of think it looks like a bit of a step backwards in terms of modernity, as modish as the last in the line Securicor font and colours were, remember we had one at a supermarket I worked saturdays at, with a real bell as I discovered one night… ;)

  2. Shorrock brought securicor alarms in the 1990’s. I’m not sure which year but it would have been before 1998/99. Shorrocks rarely changed the bell boxes when they brought a company they would have stickers made up to the size and shape of the bell box and apply them. Cheaper that way I guess.
Shorrocks brought a company in south Wales called C.W.M (Card, Willson and Morgan) security systems in the 90’s and covered their rectangular bell boxes with Shorrock stickers. Byron Morgan of C.W.M taught me alarm installation in college when i was an apprentice. I noticed an old C.W.M bell box in Caerphilly the other day it had a shorrock sticker on it and on top of that an ill fitting Chubb sticker.

The Securicor Alarms bell box was the last incarnation before Shorrocks brought them, they are much rarer than the Securicor Granley version.

    • There is a mint ‘Securicor’ version of this bellbox at Cribbs Causeway, it must have been the last ever, fitted just as the newest part of the centre opened in the late 90s, and also presumably a dummy hence untouched all these years.
