Certes Burglar Alarms, Camden, W1, 2012

“Certes Burglar Alarms” burglar alarm, Camden • I’ve seen several old Certes alarms around, so they must have been quite a big firm once. It’s a rather Latin-sounding name, which is apparently an archaic term for “certain“, and also a historic area of France noted for fish breeding. Strange name for a burglar alarm, anyway. • Spotted: Windmill Street, Camden, London, W1, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Holborn and St Pancras

  1. Hi. In support of Mike, Certes had a big DIY Market place as well. They were a NACOSS Approved company. They made a number of Acquisitions including Chiswick Security, Fit Security, and Stuart Alarms to name a few. When they moved the offices before selling they purchased Bell Security of Aylesbury. Bell Security were a big company themselves.

  2. I thought we had already covered Certes, sorry if this is a repeat. Don Arnold was the owner of Certes who started in the early 70s, he had a shop in Fulham, South West London, I believe other members of the family were co- owners or joined the company later on. Previously Don was a manager at Banhams, he did tell once the meaning of Certes but as usual I’ve forgotten I think it is taken from Greek Mythology. The company moved out to the Beaconsfield area where he lived before selling to ADT around 2000/1

    • Thanks, I don’t think this has been mentioned before, this is definitely the first Certes alarm I’ve featured. Trouble is, this blog is now so big, with so many comments, it can be a bit hard to keep track (as the WordPress search function is hopeless).
