Nameless grilled alarm, Southwark, 2010

Nameless burglar alarm, Southwark • Is rusty item even a burglar alarm? I’ve never seen one with a grille on the front before. Just in case not, I’ve now created a category called “Not actually a burglar alarm“. • Spotted: Glasshill Street, Southwark, London, SE1, England, 2010 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark

  1. There are loads of these around on Post Offices. It has a predecessor which is wider, but similarly faceless and vented box. I think they contained a large underdome bell.

    • Yes the predecessor did have a bell and originates from the 60s, still used in main Post Offices possibly into this century so should be the longest used bell box, alas Vici has been unable to photograph one, I’m sure she will find one on a post office one of these days, when I’m back in the UK I will look out for one.
