Last call

My collection is finally running thin. Thus the daily alarms have ended! To end, I have posted a few images that commenters sent, of bell boxes I never came across. But bell boxes continue to proliferate, so keep your eyes peeled…

  1. It’s a shame but will look forward to the odd update – and hopefully will be able to tip you a few nods about shopfronts in Bristol if you ever travel this way in the near future. If anyone who regularly visits here hasn’t looked at Vici’s ‘Shopfront Elegy’ site (link at the top of the page), you really, really should. Thanks for the Casa post by the way. We have a new box now but I’ll save that for another day!

    • Hi Stuart – thanks, you have been a sterling and very amusing contributor. I would love to see and indeed feature the new bellbox, you’re welcome to email me a shot. Also I’d be very grateful for any ‘nods’ towards interesting Bristol shopfronts I could seek out – I often have mini-hols down that way.

    • I guess alI great and good things must come to an end. You have done a sterling job. I have looked forward to your posts everyday. I echo Mike on that it’s a great achievement that you have posted so many boxes especially from someone outside of the industry. I hope that we have provided you with as much entertainment as you have provided us. I guess you had no idea of the history behind these funny looking boxes. Will miss your daily post, well done. Please don’t be a stranger

  2. Thanks Mike, I will miss all the commenters, which is the main reason I carried on to the bitter end. An old PO box will be up soon (maybe not the right one – you will have to tell me).

  3. I thought this day would eventually arrive, it’s a great achievement that you have posted so many boxes especially from someone outside of the industry. I’m still waiting for what I believe to be the longest used bell box that was fitted in every town. The Post Office bell box which started live when the P.O. was the GPO and it’s external appearance never changed over the many years it was fitted. Vici if you are unable to find one then I will see what I can do next time I’m back in the UK.
Will miss your daily post, well done.
