“Shield Security System”, Hackney: crumpled

“Shield Security System” burglar alarm, Hackney • And still the crumpled old Shields keep on coming. This is a nice old vintage design, quite a few of which are still around. Maybe someone can tell me if this is the same company as the last two yellow Shields• Spotted: Kingsland Road, Hackney, London, E2, England, 2011 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Hackney South and Shoreditch

  1. Ahhh Sheild Protection. As you probably gather, the bell boxes of the last two days are the same firm. Shield Protection were a geat firm. They were based in Brirtain Street, just of of Farringdon. Threy had there own monitoring station and in those days protercted a lot of farriers premises. They were owned by Mike Charlane, John Harris and one other guy who’s name escapes me at the moment!. They were aquired, probably 30 years ago by Honeywell and became Honeywell Shield, and then by Britannia who ultimatly became ADT. Many of todays alarm company owners worked or started at Shield including my own business partner, Keith Avey. I have one of these very bell boxes at my offices if you want a picture of the guts inside. Our accountant, Andy Kaye also worked for Shield Protection. In those days, most firms made there own control units and bell boxes. Mike is correct regarding the screws and that they should be on all bell boxes. The bell box shown is steel, unlike the polycarbonate (plastic) boxes we al use today. This bell box pre dates srobe lights and bell stop timers.
